Scrap the NHS postcode lottery now
I'm sick of hearing about people in other parts of the country getting better healthcare than we do in Brighton just because of where they live. It's not right that some kids get access to specialist care that ours can't, all because of some arbitrary postcode boundary. I've seen it with my own kids, they've had to travel hours to see a specialist that someone in London would have on their doorstep.
I think we need to overhaul the way the NHS allocates resources, so that everyone gets a fair shot at the same level of care, regardless of where they live. That means more funding for areas that have been neglected, and a proper needs assessment to make sure that everyone's getting the help they need. I've read about how other countries manage to provide more equitable healthcare, and it's not rocket science, it's just a matter of prioritising people over bureaucratic boundaries.
So we're just letting people be hounded out of public service now?
Why do we even have laws about harassment if people can just chuck private information online and watch the mob descend? It’s frankly pathetic that a volunteer doing good work for the community, like those RNLI folks, can have their home address plastered everywhere and be subjected to abuse. It’s like we’ve forgotten that people have lives outside of whatever cause they’re involved in.
We need a much clearer, more robust system for tackling online harassment and doxxing. This shouldn't just be about punishing the individuals who post the information, but also about holding the platforms accountable when they fail to remove it quickly. It feels like currently, the burden is entirely on the victim to prove harm, which is just backward. We should have a default presumption that publishing someone's private details with malicious intent is illegal and requires swift removal.
