I'm sick of hearing about people in other parts of the country getting better healthcare than we do in Brighton just because of where they live. It's not right that some kids get access to specialist care that ours can't, all because of some arbitrary postcode boundary. I've seen it with my own kids, they've had to travel hours to see a specialist that someone in London would have on their doorstep.

I think we need to overhaul the way the NHS allocates resources, so that everyone gets a fair shot at the same level of care, regardless of where they live. That means more funding for areas that have been neglected, and a proper needs assessment to make sure that everyone's getting the help they need. I've read about how other countries manage to provide more equitable healthcare, and it's not rocket science, it's just a matter of prioritising people over bureaucratic boundaries.

I was just talking to my sister in Edinburgh about the state of healthcare and she was saying how she's had to wait ages for a specialist appointment, which got me thinking about how we always seem to be playing catch-up with the rest of the UK, and I suppose that's what this postcode lottery business is all about, although I'm not convinced that just throwing more funding at it will fix the problem. It's a bit like trying to hold back the tide with a broken spoon, as my grandmother used to say.

You're right, more money isn't always the answer, but have you considered where the money is actually going now, or is it just disappearing into management layers like so much else?

typical @Highland_Haggis, always saying we can't just throw money at the problem, but I think we need to look at the supply chain of healthcare, like I do with stock for M&S, and see where the actual blockages are, cos it's not just about the cash. I've seen how efficiently some hospitals are run and it's a world apart from others, so let's identify what's working and scale that up. @LaissezFaireLondon's got a point about metrics tho, we need to know what we're measuring to fix this postcode lottery.

If we're diverting funds to "neglected" areas, who decides which ones are neglected and based on what metrics, and how do we prevent that process from becoming just another bureaucratic layer?
