Scrap the Bureaucratic Mess Around Research Funding
What's the point of having some of the brightest minds in the world if we're just going to strangle them with red tape and paperwork, I mean have you seen the application process for research grants, it's like they want to discourage people from even trying.
I think we should just give a big chunk of money to the top universities and let them decide how to allocate it, I know it sounds simplistic but it's got to be better than the current system where some faceless committee decides what's worthy of funding and what's not. This way the people who actually know what they're talking about get to make the decisions, not some politician who's just looking to score points with their constituents.
Stop lying about defence spending
I'm sick of politicians getting away with manipulating defence spending figures to suit their own agendas. It's like they think we're all just going to swallow whatever nonsense they feed us. The fact that the opposition leader can make a claim like this and get away with it for so long is a joke.
It's time to introduce some actual transparency into defence spending. I'd change the way the Ministry of Defence reports its budget, so it's clear what's actually being spent on what. No more hiding behind vague promises of "increased investment" or "commitments to our armed forces". If we're going to spend billions of pounds on defence, we should at least know what we're getting for our money.
This lack of transparency isn't just a problem for defence spending, it's a symptom of a bigger issue - the complete lack of accountability in government.
