Enough with the 'affordable' housing that's neither affordable nor housing! When will they build for real people?
Seriously, why do we keep seeing these tiny flats marketed as 'affordable' when they cost an arm and a leg and are barely big enough to swing a cat in, let alone raise a family? We're building luxury boxes for investors while ordinary people are crammed into insecure rentals or priced out entirely. It’s a disgrace, especially when you see the kids in my class living in overcrowded conditions.
My proposal is simple: a nationwide 'Homes for All' initiative. Forget the developers' profits for a minute and focus on actual needs. We need councils to be given the power and funding to build thousands of genuinely affordable homes – not just a token few. These should be proper family homes, not shoeboxes, with good insulation and space for people to live, not just exist.
Enough with the Blame Game: Reverse the Burden of Proof for Corporate Manslaughter
We need to fundamentally change how we deal with corporate negligence that leads to death. My proposal is simple: for cases of corporate manslaughter, the burden of proof should shift. Instead of prosecutors having to prove gross negligence beyond a reasonable doubt, the company should have to prove they took every reasonable step to prevent the harm. This is about making sure those in power are held accountable when their actions or inactions kill people, whether that's on a building site, in a factory, or through environmental pollution.
The current system often lets companies off the hook because proving exactly who was negligent at the top is incredibly difficult. We see it time and again – accidents happen, people die, and somehow no one high up is really responsible. It's like they hide behind layers of bureaucracy.
