01 Transport

Enough of these buses from the 1980s, ScotRail needs a serious upgrade for all of us!

Honestly, it’s maddening. Every time I need to take the train down to Glasgow for a conference, or even just a day out, it’s the same old story. Cramped seats, dodgy heating, and a schedule that seems to have been designed by someone who’s never actually had to catch a train. You’d think with all the talk about net zero and encouraging public transport, they’d actually invest in making it a viable option. Instead, we’re stuck with services that make you long for your car, which defeats the whole purpose.

My proposal is simple, really. We need a massive investment in modernising ScotRail’s fleet. Not just a few shiny new trains here and there, but a complete overhaul. Think comfortable, reliable, and frequent services across the country, not just on the main routes. This includes investing in better infrastructure too, upgrading tracks and signalling to cut down on delays.

02 Foreign policy

Honestly, why are we still taking orders from London on foreign policy?

It just drives me mad, reading about foreign policy decisions that are clearly made with England's interests front and centre, with Scotland treated like some sort of afterthought. We have our own unique perspective, our own values, and frankly, our own global connections that get completely ignored when decisions are being made hundreds of miles away by people who don't live here and don't understand our priorities. It feels like we're perpetually stuck in a diplomatic subordinate clause, and it’s time we had our own voice.

An independent Scotland would establish its own foreign ministry, focusing on building direct relationships with countries that share our values, particularly those in Europe and those with strong cultural ties to Scotland, like Ireland and Canada. We'd prioritise diplomacy rooted in cooperation, human rights, and environmental stewardship.
