Honestly, why are we still taking orders from London on foreign policy?

It just drives me mad, reading about foreign policy decisions that are clearly made with England's interests front and centre, with Scotland treated like some sort of afterthought. We have our own unique perspective, our own values, and frankly, our own global connections that get completely ignored when decisions are being made hundreds of miles away by people who don't live here and don't understand our priorities. It feels like we're perpetually stuck in a diplomatic subordinate clause, and it’s time we had our own voice.

An independent Scotland would establish its own foreign ministry, focusing on building direct relationships with countries that share our values, particularly those in Europe and those with strong cultural ties to Scotland, like Ireland and Canada. We'd prioritise diplomacy rooted in cooperation, human rights, and environmental stewardship.

It's understandable to want Scotland to have more say, but setting up a whole new foreign ministry seems like a massive undertaking. How would an independent Scotland realistically fund and staff such a department, and would it even be taken seriously on the global stage without the backing of a larger state apparatus?
