I think it's time we took a step back and looked at how we're teaching history in Scotland's schools. The current curriculum can be a bit too focused on the UK as a whole, rather than Scotland's unique experience. We need to make sure our kids are learning about the good things Scotland has done, from the Enlightenment to the present day.
A new "Scotland's Achievements" curriculum could run alongside the existing history lessons, teaching about the scientific breakthroughs, artistic contributions, and moments of great courage and innovation that have come from our own country. Think about the likes of Adam Smith, Robert Burns, and Mary Somerville – they all helped shape the world for the better. By learning about these figures and their achievements, our kids can develop a sense of pride and belonging to Scotland.
Enough of this AI nonsense, let's actually invest in Scottish tech!

Every other week there’s some new announcement about a think tank or a government initiative that’s going to "explore the potential" of artificial intelligence. It all sounds like so much hot air and a colossal waste of money that could be spent on things that actually matter for Scotland’s future. We’ve got brilliant minds here, but they’re often forced to go elsewhere because there isn’t enough tangible support for homegrown innovation.
We need a concrete plan to foster our own technology sector, not just chase the latest global trends. This means significant, long-term funding for Scottish universities and research institutions that are doing genuine, cutting-edge work. Imagine if we put that AI "exploration" money into developing our own renewable energy tech, or supporting our burgeoning creative industries with digital tools.
Scotland's Energy Future: Time to Cut the Cord with Westminster's Mess
We need to establish a publicly owned Scottish National Energy Company to manage our renewable resources and ensure the profits benefit Scotland directly. For too long, our wind and tidal power potential has been exploited by companies based elsewhere, with minimal return for the communities that host these projects. This new company would be tasked with developing and maintaining renewable energy infrastructure, setting fair prices for consumers, and reinvesting profits into public services and further green energy development.
The current situation, where private energy giants dictate prices and export our natural wealth, is unsustainable and frankly, insulting. A national company, accountable to the Scottish Parliament, would be focused on Scotland's needs: energy security, lower bills for families, and creating high-quality, green jobs right here at home.
