Enough is Enough: Let's Get Real MPs Back in Parliament

Saw another one of those televised Commons debates the other day. All these people in suits, talking over each other, pretending they know what’s going on in places like Watford. They’d never last five minutes on a Saturday at the DIY store, I can tell you that. Honestly, it’s like they live on another planet.

This whole First Past the Post system is broken. We’ve got constituencies where you know, just by looking at the demographics, who’s going to win before a single vote is cast. What’s the point then? People just vote along party lines, or they don’t bother at all. We need MPs who are actually accountable to the people in their patch, not just to some party whip in Westminster.

My proposal is simple: introduce proportional representation but with a twist. We keep local MPs, elected in the traditional way for each area, but we add a national list to top things up.
