Stop giving foreign aid to countries that don't even LIKE us

Gemini said
For too long, the people of this country have been treated like an afterthought by a political class that cares more about their global reputation than the people they were elected to serve. We watch in disbelief every single year as billions of pounds of our hard-earned money are shipped overseas to countries that wouldn't lift a finger to help us in our time of need.

It is a slap in the face to every hardworking taxpayer who sees the state of our own nation crumbling while we play the world’s bank manager. We are told there is no "magic money tree" for our own public services, yet the taps are always turned on for foreign projects that offer no benefit to the British public.

While we are busy funding "green energy" initiatives in middle-income nations and "diversity programs" in distant lands, our own people are struggling just to keep the lights on. It is a national scandal that our pensioners are sitting in cold houses, wrapped in blankets, because they cannot afford the soaring cost of heating.

These are the very people who built this country, worked in our factories, and paid into the system for fifty years. They were promised a "cradle to grave" security that is now being sacrificed at the altar of international virtue signaling.

Meanwhile, take a walk down any high street in Britain and you will see the same depressing sight of boarded-up windows and "To Let" signs. Our local economies are being hollowed out because the investment they desperately need is being diverted into the pockets of corrupt foreign regimes and faceless international NGOs.

Our infrastructure is a joke, with roads so riddled with potholes that they look like they’ve been through a war zone. We are told there isn't enough money to resurface our streets or modernize our local transport, yet the government finds billions to send to nuclear-armed nations.

It is high time we remembered that charity starts at home, and it always should. We must immediately and permanently slash the foreign aid budget to 0.3% of GNI.

This simple, common-sense move would instantly free up billions of pounds that can be spent right here, on our own people and our own priorities. We need to stop pretending we can solve all the world’s problems when we can’t even fix the cracks in our own pavements.

Every penny of that clawed-back money should be ring-fenced for the British public. We should be using it to scrap the unfair taxes on energy, to bolster the Triple Lock, and to ensure no elderly person ever has to choose between a hot meal and a warm home again.

It is time to invest in our towns, to bring the pride back to our communities, and to show the forgotten people of this country that their government finally has their back. We have been the world’s "soft touch" for far too long, and the rest of the world has come to expect our generosity as a right rather than a privilege.

If other countries want a single penny of our support, they can start by showing this nation some genuine respect. We should no longer be handing out cash to governments that vote against us at every turn or refuse to take back their own citizens who enter our country illegally.

Aid must be strictly conditional on cooperation, trade, and mutual benefit, rather than being a guilt-driven giveaway. Britain is a great nation with a proud history, but we cannot continue to carry the weight of the world while our own foundations are shaking.

We must put our own families, our own workers, and our own veterans first. The days of the Westminster elite treating our Treasury like a global ATM must come to a definitive and final end.

It is not "selfish" to want your own taxes spent on your own children’s future or your own parents’ healthcare. It is the most basic duty of a sovereign government to look after its own citizens before anyone else.

By cutting aid and investing at home, we aren't just saving money; we are restoring our national self-respect. It’s time to stop apologizing, stop wasting our wealth, and start putting Britain First.

02 Social welfare

If you can work but WON'T work you should lose your benefits. Simple.

I worked 46 years. Started at 16 in a warehouse. Never claimed a penny.

Now I see young lads down the road who haven't worked a DAY sitting around collecting benefits. New trainers. Takeaway every night. Latest phone.

If you are fit and healthy and under 60 you should be WORKING. No excuses. Benefits should be for people who genuinely CANNOT work. Not for people who can't be bothered.

Two years maximum on jobseekers. After that you do community work or you get nothing. THAT is fair.

Our high street has CHANGED beyond recognition and nobody asked us

Walked down Watford high street last week. Counted the shops. Half of them I can't even READ the signs.

I'm not saying people can't open shops. Free country. But when your whole town centre stops selling things that BRITISH people want and starts catering to everyone else, something has gone wrong.

Where's my butcher? Where's the greengrocer? Gone. Replaced by places I don't recognise selling things I've never heard of.

Local councils should have a say in what opens on the high street. Keep some BALANCE. That's all I'm asking.

Voters must approve PM appointees

I'm fed up with politicians making decisions without asking us, it's about time we took back control. These career politicians are out of touch with real people, I see it every day in the DIY store, customers are frustrated with the system. We need to make sure the people in charge are accountable to us, not just their party bosses.

We need a system where the public gets to vote on key appointments, like advisors to the PM. It's simple, if they want to bring in some fancy new face, we should get a say. This would stop all these behind the door deals and make sure the people in power are actually representing us. I mean, who do these politicians think they are, making decisions without asking us, it's JUST NOT RIGHT.

It's not rocket science, we can use the existing electoral system to make it work. We just need to add a new layer of accountability, so when a PM wants to appoint someone, it goes to a public confirmation vote within a fixed period, unless Parliament rejects the appointment first.

This would not mean voting on every civil servant or junior adviser. It should apply only to the most powerful political appointments, where influence is high and public accountability is currently weak. Keep it simple, keep it transparent, and stop letting Westminster mark its own homework.

If someone is going to shape decisions that affect millions of people, the public should not find out after the deal is done. They should have a say before the person gets the power.

Scrap the nonsense in schools

I'm sick of hearing about how our schools are failing, it's all about the wrong priorities if you ask me. I see kids coming into my DIY store who can't even use a tape measure, but they can tell you all about climate change and whatnot. Don't get me wrong, it's important, but what's the point if they can't even build a shelf.

I'd change the whole curriculum, make it more practical, get kids learning real skills. We need more tradespeople, not just academics. I've got customers coming in all the time saying they can't find a decent plumber or electrician, but we've got plenty of kids with degrees in useless subjects. It's madness. We should be teaching kids how to fix a leaky tap, or build a wall, not just how to pass an exam.

I remember when I was at school, we had proper vocational training, and it worked. We didn't have all these fancy degrees, but we had people who could actually do things.

Make Politicians Declare EVERYTHING

I think all politicians should have to declare every single gift or donation they get, no matter how small, so we can see who's trying to buy their loyalty. This is needed because it's clear some of them are more interested in lining their own pockets than in doing what's right for the country.

We need to know if our leaders are being influenced by people who don't have our best interests at heart, and the only way to do that is to make them declare everything. I mean, if someone gives them a few grand for a new car, that's a potential conflict of interest, isn't it? And it's not just about the money, it's about the principle - if they're taking gifts from people, can we really trust them to make decisions for the rest of us?

I've seen it in my shop, people coming in and talking about how they don't trust politicians, and it's because of things like this.

Teach Britain's Real Story

I'm fed up with the way history is taught in schools, it's all about what we did wrong, never what we did right. I've had customers coming into the DIY store, real people, talking about how their kids are being taught to be ashamed of Britain's past. Enough is enough, we need to teach kids about the good we've done, the wars we've won, the empire we built.

I'm not saying we should gloss over the bad bits, but we need a balanced view, not just one side of the story. My dad always said that if you only know one side of a story you don't know the story at all. We need to teach kids about our achievements, about the people who made Britain great. I mean, what's wrong with being proud of your country, it's not like we're asking for much.

I think this is a problem because it's not just about history, it's about identity, it's about who we are as a people. If we're taught to be ashamed of our past, what's to stop us being ashamed of ourselves.

Stop Apologising For Britain On Climate Change

I'm fed up with all this fuss about climate change being some kind of global problem that we can't do anything about. We need to stop blaming ourselves and start taking control of our own destiny. The EU's not going to save us, and neither is anyone else.

We should be investing in our own climate science, not just following what the rest of the world is doing. And we should be doing it with British companies and British workers, not just handing over cash to whoever claims to have a solution. I see it every day in the DIY store, people want to buy British, they want to support our own economy.

This isn't about being isolationist, it's about being proud of who we are and what we can achieve. We don't need to be dictated to by the rest of the world, we can make our own decisions and find our own solutions.

Stop Wasting Our Money. Fund Our NHS Properly.

This sounds like another load of politician talk. They always say they want to fund the NHS, but then they don’t. This idea of bonds sounds complicated. Why do we need private money involved? The NHS is supposed to be for us, not for making money for bankers.

We just need to stop sending our money abroad. That foreign aid rubbish. We give billions away while our own hospitals are falling apart. And what about all these “vanity projects” the original writer mentioned? Like that massive new building in London they don’t even need. That’s where the money is. Stop the waste at home first.

It’s not rocket science. Focus on the basics. Get more nurses and doctors trained here, not from overseas where they’re needed. Pay them properly. Make sure the hospitals have the beds and equipment they actually need, not fancy new apps nobody uses. Enough is enough.

My customers at the shop, they’re not worried about overseas aid.
