Enough Is Enough: Put British Families First on Housing

Went to see my mate Dave down at the pub last week. He’s a plumber, works bloody hard. His daughter, she’s 28, still living at home with him and his wife. Says she’ll never get on the ladder now. Saw her the other day trying to buy a coffee, heard her talking about how she’s looking at flats miles out, commutes an hour each way. Her mum and dad are decent folk, paid their taxes their whole lives, and their kid can’t even afford a place in her own town. It’s a disgrace.

This whole system is rigged. We’ve got developers building shoeboxes that cost a fortune, and for who? Not for people like Dave’s daughter, that’s for sure. And all these new estates popping up, they’re packed with people who’ve just arrived. Our own kids can’t get a look in. No one asked us if this was okay. We need a policy that prioritises British citizens, especially young families and key workers, when it comes to new housing.
