Why should these union bosses get to decide who speaks for working people? They trot out the same old lines, saying nobody like Farage is a "friend of the workers", but when was the last time they actually delivered anything real for the bloke stuck driving a van or the woman working on a checkout? They get paid by their members, but it feels like they’re more interested in lining their own pockets and pushing their own agendas.
I reckon it’s time we brought in some proper accountability. If a union wants to speak for a particular trade or industry, they should have to prove they’re actually helping those people. Maybe a referendum every five years, not just on who’s in charge, but on whether the union is still relevant.

This approach could also lead to unions focusing on short-term gains to win votes rather than working on long-term issues, like pension reform or workplace safety, which might not be as immediately popular with members but are crucial in the long run, anyway.
