Sort Out The NHS Waiting Lists Already

I had a passenger the other day, poor bloke, been waiting for a knee replacement for over a year, and he's still got no date for the op. He's in agony, can barely walk, and it's affecting his job, his family, everything. I've seen this time and time again, people suffering because the NHS is stretched to the limit.

I think it's about time we got our priorities straight and started tackling the waiting lists. I'm not saying it's easy, but we need to take a hard look at how we're allocating resources and make some changes. Maybe we need to bring in more staff, or offer more flexible working hours to existing staff, I don't know, but something's got to give. My daughter's a teacher and she's always saying how the NHS is underfunded, but I'm not so sure that's the whole story, I think it's more about how the money's being spent.

Scrap the NHS lottery system

What's the point of having a national health service if you can't even get a doctor's appointment when you need one, I mean I've had passengers who've had to wait months for a routine checkup.

I was talking to a bloke in the back of my cab the other day and he was telling me about how his mate had to go private just to get a knee replacement, it's a joke, we pay our taxes and expect to be taken care of, not have to shell out thousands of pounds for something the NHS should be covering.

My proposal is to scrap the current system and replace it with one where everyone pays a bit more tax but gets a guaranteed level of service, no more waiting lists, no more going private just to get treated like a human being.

03 Education

Schools are teaching kids to hate Britain. Time to fix it.

Why are we letting schools fill kids' heads with guilt about history instead of pride? Seems like every other week there's some new curriculum point about how terrible this country is. It’s madness. Kids should be learning about the good things Britain has done, alongside the bad, not just dwelling on the negatives to the point where they think we're the worst nation on earth.

My proposal is simple: a new "British Achievements" curriculum to run alongside the existing history lessons. This wouldn't be about ignoring the difficult parts of our past, but it would actively teach about the scientific breakthroughs, the artistic contributions, the moments of great courage and innovation that have come from these islands. Think about the NHS, penicillin, Shakespeare, the suffragettes – real stuff that shaped the world for the better.

We need to get back to basics and foster a sense of belonging and national pride.

Scrap First Past The Post Already

I had a passenger the other day, a young professional, and we got talking about politics, she was saying how she felt like her vote didn't count because she lived in a safe seat, I told her I knew what she meant, I've been voting Labour all my life but I didn't vote for Corbyn, and now I feel like my vote doesn't count either because the system is so rigged.

I think that's why we need to scrap first past the post, it's an old system that doesn't work for people like my passenger or me, we need something that makes every vote count, something like proportional representation, I've heard it's used in other countries and it seems to work alright, at least people feel like their vote matters.
