Scrap the NHS Bureaucracy Already

I was at the hospital last week visiting a friend who's been struggling with chronic pain and it was appalling to see how many administrators were wandering around while the nurses were run off their feet. My friend's been waiting months for a referral to a specialist and it's all because of some delay in the system. I couldn't help but think of all the times I had to deal with red tape when I was a headmistress, trying to get things done for the kids in my school.

I remember when I first started out, the NHS was a place where people went to get help, not to get lost in a sea of paperwork. Now it seems like the bureaucrats have taken over and the doctors and nurses are just trying to keep up. I've heard stories from my daughter, who's a solicitor, about people who have been left to suffer because some faceless administrator decided that their treatment wasn't "cost-effective".
