Well, in my experience running things locally, the NHS always seems to have too many chiefs and not enough indians, as they say. It’s not about cutting care, it’s about making sure the money spent actually reaches the bedside. Too much time is wasted on endless forms and committees that don’t seem to make much difference to the people needing help.
We need to give more power back to the front line. Doctors and nurses should have more say in how their departments are run, and less interference from distant administrators. If we can simplify the reporting structures and cut down on the layers of management, more resources could be directed to actual patient care, like hiring more nurses or keeping wards open.
And what about those smaller, local suppliers who could offer services more efficiently?
