Let's ditch First Past the Post before my local council gets even weirder

I was at a parish council meeting last week, and honestly, it was a joke. The turnout was pathetic, and the same three people decide everything, even though the ward is split pretty evenly between a few different views. It just reinforces how broken our system is when a tiny minority can dictate policy because of how the votes fall. It’s not representative of anything, really.

We need to move to a form of proportional representation, like the Single Transferable Vote (STV) they use in Ireland for their Dáil. It means your vote actually counts, even if your first choice doesn't win. People can rank candidates, and if their top pick is out, their vote transfers to their second choice, and so on. It discourages tactical voting and forces parties to appeal to a broader base, not just cling onto safe seats by scaring people about the other lot.
