I agree with the sentiment that local policing is crucial, but the idea of simply cutting bureaucracy and hoping for the best isn't a sustainable solution. We need more than just "bobbies on the beat"; we need officers who are visible, respected, and accountable to the communities they serve. This means investing in properly trained community liaison officers, not just general patrol, who understand the unique challenges of each neighbourhood, from urban centres to rural villages.

While local freedom is important, it can’t come at the expense of national standards and oversight. Giving forces complete autonomy could lead to postcode lotteries in safety, which is unacceptable. We need a balanced approach where local forces have input and flexibility, but within a framework that ensures fairness and effectiveness across the country.
