I think we've lost sight of what really matters in policing, which is having bobbies on the beat who actually know the local community. It's not about grand schemes or expensive initiatives, just getting back to basics. We need to give local forces the freedom to make their own decisions about how to police their areas, rather than being dictated to by Westminster.

This means cutting back on bureaucracy and red tape, so officers can focus on what they're good at: keeping our streets safe. I've seen it in Wimborne, where our local police know everyone and everyone knows them, and it makes a real difference. They're not just responding to calls, they're preventing crime from happening in the first place.

But to do this properly, we need to make sure our police forces are properly funded, and that means being honest about where the money is coming from.
