Sick of the NHS waiting lists? Time to bring in some private sector common sense!

Honestly, the state of the NHS makes my blood boil. I’ve got mates waiting months for simple procedures, and then they’re complaining about the ‘efficiency’ of it all. It’s not rocket science. We’re pouring money into a system that’s become a bureaucratic black hole. Carol’s mum had to wait ages just for a hip replacement, and she’s in constant pain. It’s not right.

My proposal is simple: let’s integrate private providers properly, not just as a last resort when things are completely broken. Allow people to use their private health insurance, or even pay out of pocket, for quicker access to certain services like diagnostics, scans, and routine surgeries. This would immediately free up capacity within the NHS for those who truly can't afford any alternatives. It’s not about privatising the NHS; it’s about making it work better for everyone by having more options.

Get Benefits Right, Not Just Tight

I've always thought the benefits system needs a bit of a shake-up, and this idea of linking payments to job search activity has some merit. The problem is, it's all a bit too Big Brother for my taste. We don't need some fancy digital tracking system to tell us who's genuinely looking for work. What we need is a bit of common sense and some proper, old-fashioned job centres with people who can actually help.

What I'd propose is a more localised approach, where job centres have the power to make decisions based on the specific needs of their area. If someone's struggling to find work because of a lack of skills, then let's get them on a course that'll actually help. And if someone's just not bothering, then maybe their benefits should be reduced. But we need to be careful not to punish people who are genuinely trying. It's about finding a balance between supporting those who need it and encouraging people to get back to work.

Sort Out History Lessons in Schools

My son came home from university the other day and I was talking to him about his courses, he's studying engineering but he's also got to take some general studies, and I was shocked when he told me about the way they're teaching history now, it's all about how terrible Britain's been to everyone else, I mean I'm not saying we've always been perfect but come on, we've done some good things too, and that's not what's being taught.

I think this is a problem because it's not giving kids a balanced view, it's just filling their heads with one side of the story, and that's not how you learn, my father used to say that if you only know one side of a story you don't know the story at all, and that's what's happening here, kids are being taught to be ashamed of their own country, and that's just not right, we should be proud of what we've achieved, and we should be teaching kids that.

Make MPs Face the Music Sooner

We should introduce a system where MPs can be recalled by their constituents at any time, not just at election time. This is needed because too many politicians make promises they don't keep and then just coast until the next election.

It's time we held them accountable for their actions, and a recall system would do just that. It would work by having a petition system where a certain percentage of constituents can sign a petition to recall their MP, and if it succeeds, a by-election would be triggered. This would give people a chance to get rid of an MP who isn't doing their job, and it would also make MPs think twice before breaking their promises.

This system would be a big improvement on the current system, where MPs can just sit back and collect their paychecks without worrying about being held accountable.
