Let's Get Serious About Community Policing, Not Just More Paperwork

The government needs to seriously rethink its approach to social welfare by reinvesting in local, visible policing and community support initiatives. Frankly, throwing more money at overarching national programs without strengthening the fabric of our local communities feels like rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic. We need officers who are known faces, who understand the specific challenges of an area, not just those responding to calls from afar.

One must consider the impact on areas like ours. When local police beat officers are cut back in favour of centralised response units, a vital connection is lost. These officers used to be the first line of defence, noticing when something wasn't right, whether it was a vulnerable person struggling or signs of petty crime escalating.
