We should redirect significant national funds, like the £10bn being discussed for missile defence, into a comprehensive national climate resilience and green infrastructure programme. It feels like we're always preparing for old wars when the real, existential threat is already here, changing our weather patterns and flooding our communities. True national security now means protecting our environment and securing a stable future for everyone.
This programme wouldn't just be about abstract targets; it would be about practical, local solutions. We're talking about upgrading and building new flood defences across vulnerable areas, investing heavily in modernising our public transport networks to actually make them an attractive alternative to cars, and accelerating the shift to renewable energy at scale.
