A fair system for new arrivals: balancing support with responsibility and proper planning.

It's clear that the current system for managing new arrivals isn't working as well as it should. There's a real public concern about the pressure on local services and the perception that some people arrive without a clear plan for how they'll contribute. We need a system that feels fair to everyone, both those already here and those seeking a new life, but it has to be manageable for the country as a whole.

My view is we need much clearer expectations from the start. Ideally, most applications should be made from outside the UK. This allows for proper vetting and ensures people understand what they're coming to. We should prioritise those with skills our economy genuinely needs, or those with family already settled here who can offer support.
