Constituencies Are Broken, But Lists Are Worse

The argument that safe seats render votes meaningless is a bit of a red herring. The real problem isn't that votes don't count, it's that the current system encourages parties to focus on a handful of swing seats while ignoring everyone else. Tinkering with representation by adding regional lists sounds like another bureaucratic fix that will only dilute the link between a local MP and their constituents.

My concern is that these list systems, while seemingly fairer on paper, create a class of politicians who owe their seat not to the people in a geographical area, but to the party apparatchiks who put them on the list. This is the opposite of what we need. We need more accountability, not less. Instead of creating more layers of representation, we should be looking at ways to strengthen the existing constituency link.
