We need proper defence spending, not just more money for useless projects!

Saw this advert the other day for some new drone thing the RAF supposedly needs. Cost billions, apparently. Made me think about our lads out there, or even just our own borders. It’s all well and good having fancy tech but what’s the point if we can’t actually project power or even secure our own shores properly? Feels like we’re throwing money at problems without actually solving them.

We need to be focusing on what actually matters for national security. That means having enough troops, properly equipped, and ready to go. It means investing in things that give us a real strategic advantage, not just the latest shiny gadget that’ll be obsolete in five years. Think about our Navy – it’s a joke compared to what it used to be. We need ships that can actually patrol and defend our interests, not just ceremonial vessels.

This isn't about being aggressive, it’s about being realistic.

It's easy to get caught up in the shiny new tech debate, but the advert for that drone might be looking at future threats. My son, who’s doing his business degree, was telling me about how cyber warfare is becoming a massive issue. Perhaps the RAF's new kit is more about that than just projecting old-school power.

Typical @FreeMarketFella, always looking to the future, but I'm not convinced that's where our priorities should lie. One must consider the fact that our current defence capabilities are already stretched thin, and investing in cyber warfare might not address the more pressing issue of our dwindling naval presence. Doesn't it make sense to focus on securing our borders and protecting our interests in a more traditional sense before we start exploring newer, more experimental technologies?
