As a nation, Scotland has the chance to lead the way in renewable energy, but we need to be realistic about how we get there. I've read about the problems with Net Zero targets and I think we can do better. We should be focusing on a made-in-Scotland solution that prioritises security, affordability, and our unique cultural heritage.
Our government should be investing in community-led renewable projects, like wind farms and hydroelectric power, that put money back into local economies. We also need to make sure our schools are teaching the next generation about the importance of sustainability and conservation, so they can carry on this work. I've seen it firsthand in my classroom, where kids are eager to learn about and protect Scotland's natural beauty.
But we can't just ignore the role that fossil fuels still play in our energy mix.
