Fix Mental Health Funding Already

How is it that we can pump millions into new roads and stadiums but can't seem to scrape together enough cash to properly fund our mental health services.

I mean think about it, we're constantly hearing about how mental health is just as important as physical health, but when it comes down to it, the funding just isn't there. I've seen it firsthand in my work with vulnerable kids, they're the ones who suffer when we don't have enough therapists or support workers.

We need to change the way we fund mental health, it's as simple as that. My proposal is to divert some of the money we currently spend on crisis services and put it into prevention and early intervention. That means hiring more therapists, training more support workers, and actually listening to what people need instead of just reacting to emergencies.

It's not rocket science, it's just common sense.

Enough With The Testing Treadmill For Kids, It's Not Working

I’m so fed up with seeing kids being put through the wringer with endless tests. It feels like all they do now is prep for exams that don't really tell you anything useful about their actual ability or potential. My own kids have come home stressed out, saying they feel like they're just memorising facts to pass a test, not actually learning to think. It’s draining their creativity and making school feel like a chore, not an adventure.

We need to ditch the high-stakes testing culture and focus on a more holistic approach to education. Instead of cramming for exams, schools should be encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Teachers need the freedom to tailor lessons to individual student needs, not just to tick boxes for Ofsted or league tables. Imagine a system where we actually foster a love for learning, not just a fear of failure.

Enough with the endless testing - kids need actual learning, not exam cramming!

I'm sick to death of hearing about league tables and SATs results dominating every education conversation. It feels like we're just churning out kids who are brilliant at ticking boxes for Ofsted but have no idea how to think critically or solve real-world problems. My own kids are subjected to this pressure, and honestly, it’s exhausting for them and us. They should be exploring, getting messy, and actually enjoying learning, not just dreading the next assessment.

My proposal is to scrap the current high-stakes standardized testing regime entirely. Instead, schools should focus on continuous assessment integrated into the learning process. Think project-based work, portfolios, and teacher observations that actually reflect a student’s understanding and development over time.
