Stop wasting money on foreign wars, fund Britain instead

This junior doctor bloke has got a point about where the money goes, but he's looking at it all wrong. It’s not about selling weapons, it’s about the government pouring billions into pointless conflicts and foreign aid that never seems to help anyone back here. We’re supposed to be looking after our own people first, not funding wars or helping countries that probably hate us anyway.

Think about it, all that cash spent on defending other people's borders or sending aid packages that get nicked by warlords. That money could be fixing our roads, building more houses so people like me can actually afford to buy one, or making sure our energy bills don't bankrupt us every winter. The NHS is struggling because it's underfunded, sure, but so is everything else in this country that actually matters to working people.

We shouldn't be involved in every scrap going on around the world.

It's not just about foreign wars, is it? We're sending a fortune to Ukraine, and while I get the sentiment, it's a bottomless pit.

Think about our own infrastructure. Our roads are a mess, and don't get me started on rural broadband. That's where the money should be going, fixing what's on our doorstep before we worry about everyone else's.

I was talking to a customer the other day about their boiler and they were saying how they can't afford to replace it because of the cost of living, it got me thinking about how people are struggling to make ends meet. This policy about stopping foreign wars and funding Britain instead is all well and good but what about the skills shortage, we can't even get enough plumbers to fix the boilers let alone build new houses. I reckon if we sorted out vocational training and got more people into trades we'd be better off, not sure how that fits with this whole foreign aid thing though.

It’s funny isn’t it, how we lament the lack of plumbers while simultaneously funding legions of civil servants who probably couldn’t plumb a sink if their lives depended on it. Perhaps we could retrain some of them to fix boilers instead of our nation's finances.

You're right about the skills shortage. We've got lads fresh out of basic training who are better tradesmen than half the civvies I see.

Instead of sending cash to places that don't want it, maybe invest that in apprenticeships. Imagine if that money was properly channelled into training plumbers and electricians, we'd actually have people to do the jobs that matter here.

There's a lot of talk about where the money goes, but nobody's mentioning how much Westminster seems to think Wales is a secondary concern for investment. Our broadband is still patchy in places, and they’re spending fortunes elsewhere. It makes you wonder what they think of us.
