Stricter accountability for officials handling public money.
You see this sort of thing, don't you? Someone's always poking around accounts when they think no one's looking. It's a drain.
We need a clear system. If you're managing taxpayer cash, or even public funds from other places, and it looks dodgy, you get properly investigated, not just whispered about. No hiding behind 'process'.
Bring in an independent body with real teeth. Not another committee that just produces reports. Give them the power to freeze assets and recommend prosecution immediately if the gen stacks up. It’d be paid for by the fines and seized assets from actual convictions.
It might slow things down a bit initially, but better than letting the dodgy geezers cream it all off.
Stricter rules for foreign-owned businesses operating in the UK
Some foreign outfits are coming here, making a racket, and then acting like they own the place. It’s not good for business or our reputation.
We need a system that vets foreign investors more thoroughly, not just on their money but on their behaviour and respect for our laws and norms. No room for entitled types causing trouble.
This would be funded by a new, small levy on foreign-owned companies that meet certain revenue thresholds. It’s not a tax on business, it’s a fee for operating here responsibly.
Look, it won't stop every idiot, but it'll make sure the ones who are here are actually adding value and not just causing a stink.
scrap mp second jobs
We should ban MPs from having second jobs or taking paid directorships while in office, it's a no brainer. This is needed because it's a clear conflict of interest, you can't serve two masters and expect to do either job properly. I've seen it in the civvy world, people trying to juggle too much and dropping the ball, and it's even worse when you're supposed to be making decisions that affect the whole country.
I think it's ridiculous that MPs are allowed to take on extra work, it's like they're not being paid enough or something. Newsflash, being an MP is a full time job, if you can't hack it then get out. And it's not like they're short of cash, they're on a good wage and they get all sorts of perks, so why do they need to be taking on extra work. It's just a way for them to line their own pockets and it's not what they're supposed to be doing.
Shut the Back Door on Bogus Asylum Claims
I was chatting to a mate who's a copper in Catterick and he was telling me about this bloke who rocked up at the local nick claiming asylum, said he was from Somalia or somewhere. Thing is, the guy had a brand new iPhone and a TAG watch, didn't seem too desperate to me. Turns out he'd been living in France for years, had a job and a flat, but decided to leg it to the UK because he heard the benefits were better. That's not what the asylum system is for, it's a joke.
I've seen this sort of thing before, people taking the mickey, and it's getting worse. I think we need to sort out our asylum system, make it so only genuine cases get considered. We should be looking after people who are actually fleeing war zones or persecution, not some bloke who wants to jump the queue for a council flat.
We need to start by fixing our borders, making sure people can't just walk in and claim asylum without being properly checked out.
