Sort Grimsby First, Then Worry About World Affairs
Look, I’m not saying we shouldn’t have a strong defence, my dad always said you need to look after your own house. But the idea that we’re supposed to be running around sorting out everyone else’s problems when our own high street is struggling and the waiting lists at the hospital are longer than my arm, it’s just daft. We’ve got people in Grimsby who can’t get a doctor’s appointment, let alone worry about what’s happening over in the Middle East.
This policy talks about the NHS, and I agree with that entirely. But it’s not just about throwing money at it. We need better management, less bureaucracy, and more focus on actual patient care. And while we're at it, let's think about what 'global influence' even means for a town like ours. Does it mean another politician flying off to some conference while our fishing fleets are struggling? I doubt it.
Scrap Uni Fees for Trades
I was talking to a kid the other day who just left school and he wanted to be an electrician, but his parents were worried about the debt he'd be in if he went to college. I told him about my own son who did an apprenticeship at the local garage and now he's got a good job and no student loans to pay off. It's a no-brainer, if you ask me.
I think the problem is that politicians in London are too focused on getting kids into university, like that's the only way to get a good job. But what about the kids who don't want to sit in a lecture hall all day, who want to get their hands dirty and learn a trade. We need more plumbers and carpenters, not just lawyers and accountants. And we need to make it easier for them to get the training they need without breaking the bank.
I'm proposing that we scrap university fees for kids who want to do a trade, whether it's at a college or through an apprenticeship. It's just common sense, if you ask me.
Fixing Immigration Mess Once and For All
What's the point of having an immigration system if it's just going to let people in without making sure they've got a job lined up or a way to support themselves, I mean it's just common sense that you shouldn't be allowed to just turn up and expect everyone else to foot the bill for you.
I think we should introduce a new points-based system that rewards people who've already got a job offer or a solid business plan, that way we can make sure that the people coming in are actually going to contribute to the local economy, and not just put a strain on our already stretched public services. It's not about being anti-immigrant, it's just about being sensible and making sure that we're getting people in who are actually going to make a positive impact.
